Keep the Sabbath Holy
Golden Text-
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it Holy"
_Exodus 20:8
Biblical Background
The word
"Sabbath" comes from Hebrew word and it means, "to desist, cease or rest". For Hebrew people, the word Sabbath
is very important and it concerns with creation story(Gen
2:3). According to Exodus 20:8-11, they must obey, follow, and take rest at
Sabbath, not only Jewish family and their livestock, but also their visitors.
They are prevented not to do anything at Sabbath. In their history, they obey
that law until they were killed in battle.
On the other hand,
Sunday is a special day for Christians. It is the day of resurrection of the
Lord Jesus Christ, the day of the coming of Holy Spirit upon believers. It is
wonderful day and it shakes the world. After that, in A.D 80-90, Sunday was
called "The Lord's Day". In A.D 321, Emperor Constantine officially
announced Sunday as The Lord's Day and forbid that no
one to work in that day.
The Ten Commandments
Exodus 20:8-11
8 "Remember the
Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
9 Six days you shall
labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh
day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On
it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your
manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
11 For in six days
the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed
the Sabbath day and made it holy.

*Sabbath_(133 O.T-84/N.T-59)
The first express
mention of the Sabbath is found in Exo 16:21-30, in
connection with the giving of the manna. Yahweh taught the people in the
wilderness to observe the 7th day as a Sabbath of rest by sending no manna on
that day, a double supply being given on the 6th day of the week. Here we have
to do with a weekly Sabbath as a day of rest from ordinary secular labor.

(Heb: barakh): This word is found more frequently in the Old
Testament than in the New Testament, and is used in different relations.
The Resurrection of Jesus
Luke 24: 1 on the first day of the week(Sunday), very early in the morning, the women took the
spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
2. They found the
stone rolled away from the tomb,
3. but
when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4. While they were wondering
about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood
beside them.
5. In their fright
the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them,
Why do you look for the living among the dead?
6. He is not here; he
has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:
7. "The Son of Man must be delivered
into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised
again."
